Abstract
By the grace of Allah, it is a great pleasure to introduce this issue of: The International Journal on Islamic Applications in Computer Science and Technology
During the 12th year of the publication of this Journal, this issue is the 47th of this journal. We thank Allah for enabling us to continue all through these years. With the wide specialization of this Journal, it attracted contributions from researchers from all over the world. We pray to Allah to put his “Baraka” in the contents of the Journal and spread the fruits of its contents in the future.
This issue contains three papers. The first one is entitled: Modernizing WAQF Governance with Blockchain: A Framework for Transparent, Efficient, and Trust-Based Islamic Social Finance
This paper delves into the potential reinvention of "WAQF," a cornerstone of Islamic economic social instruments, through the lens of blockchain technology. The purpose of the research is to investigate the transition of the WAQF principle from its traditional means to a modernized blockchain driven approach, emphasizing trust, transparency, and genuine engagement with this complicated technology. Additionally, the research follows an experimental approach which involves designing and implementing blockchain based architecture for WAQF management. However, the proposed system is tested under various scenarios to evaluate its effectiveness in improving data integrity, transaction transparency, and decentralised process automation. These improvements are expected to enhance stakeholder trust, increase operational efficiency, and ensure better governance of WAQF assets. Consequently, there are highlighted potential challenges which suggest solutions for integrating blockchain with existing WAQF systems. The originality of this paper lies in its experimental approach, combining Islamic finance principles with cutting edge blockchain technology to propose a novel solution for modernizing WAQF.
The second paper is entitled: The role of wisdom in guiding ethical decision-making within AI systems
This study explores the intersection of wisdom and artificial intelligence, examines the role of wisdom in guiding ethical decision-making within AI systems. Through qualitative interviews with experts in AI ethics, philosophy, and technology development, this research investigates how wisdom can be integrated into AI design and development to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability. The study also explores the ethical dilemmas and challenges that arise from the increasing integration of AI in various sectors and examines the potential for wisdom to inform more responsible and ethical AI practices. The findings of this study contribute valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on ethical AI governance and offer recommendations for fostering a future where wisdom guides the development and deployment of AI technologies in a way that aligns with societal values and ethical principles and common good for humankind.
The third paper is entitled: Online Data Privacy Ethical Guidelines based on Islamic perspectives
This research aims to establish Ethical Frameworks for organizations operating in the Muslim community to protect personal information and uphold Islamic values. The results of this study highlight the urgent requirement of data privacy standards that are sensitive to culture and ethics for the concerned organizations and communities under Islamic influence. The increasing rate of digitization of collection and use of personal data brings a lot of challenges with respect to its use in ethical framework, a few of whom are not satisfactorily covered by the existing global frameworks. This study proposes the applicability of Islamic precepts in bridging this gap by providing a host of guidelines driven by the values of trust (Amanah), privacy (hifz al-‘ird), public benefits (maslaha), and proportionality.
